Game Summary[]
Given 4 pictures, pick an order so that the pictures next to each other have something in common. Here is an example of four pictures and a possible ordering.
flute – violin – guitar – drums
The flute and violin are used in classical music. The violin and guitar are both string instruments. The guitar and the drums are used in a rock band.
This game exercises students’ abilities to categorize objects in different ways. Often the four pictures can be ordered and categorized in multiple ways.
Players / Moderators[]
- Ages 8 and up.
- A whole classroom full of students.
- Need one moderator to present the pictures and call on respondents.
Game Set-up and Construction[]
- Just gather the students in front of a screen where a projector will show the pictures or in front of a poster board with the pictures printed or pasted on it.
- Have a set of pictures ready to go. Our research team can create further sets of pictures.
- No cost!
How to Play / Game Rules[]
- Moderator explains the rules of Pic an Order.
- Moderator shows a set of four pictures.
- Students try to create an order where adjacent pictures have something in common.
- Students who successfully create a unique order will earn a point. Most sets of pictures have multiple ways they can be ordered.
